Please join House of Dreams in honoring the life of Mixy, who crossed the Rainbow Bridge on April 3, 2020.

At nearly 20 years old, Mixy was the elder statesman of our shelter, our version of a loving grandpa you always want to be sure to spend time with.

Mixy came to House of Dreams in 2012 with his best friend Boo. The two could often be found snuggled up together in a cozy bed in front of the sunny window. It was not uncommon to see Boo fit herself into a bed with Mixy and immediately take up most of the space. Boo did this not from a desire to hog the bed but from a desire to provide love and comfort to Mixy. While Mixy wasn’t necessarily a fan of other cats sharing his bed, he always made space for his Boo.

He and Boo were particularly close with a number of other kitty friends at House of Dreams who have also crossed the bridge in recent years. These friends included Annie and Pepe, a fluffy ginger and white kitty and a tuxedo kitty, respectively. Mixy and Boo often snuggled near Annie and Pepe in adjoining beds. Other members of their special club included Frankie and Midnight, two black long-haired kitties who could also often be found in the cuddle pile in front of the big window.

Along with a good brushing, Mixy loved drinking water from the sink. Sometimes he would sit on the kitchen counter looking expectantly at the sink so that he didn’t miss an opportunity to enjoy one of his favorite pastimes. More recently, he enjoyed his own special water fountain.

Over the years, Mixy began to experience a number of medical conditions, including diabetes and asthma. With ongoing attention from our dedicated and knowledgeable volunteers and the best veterinary care, there were improvements in his conditions over time. More recently, however, his body began to slow down, and we watched him closely to make the best possible decision about his quality of life. He crossed the Rainbow Bridge with love in the company of one of his very favorite long-time caretakers.

It was an honor to know Mixy and to care for him. House of Dreams won’t be quite the same without his robust purr and quiet strength.
